I saw it on the second night of their scheduled two week run and totally disagree with your assessment. It was a delightful parody of musical theater classics. Every member of the cast was an amazingly talented triple threat. I laughed my head off.

Was SpongeBob successful? It ran less than a year and has not entered the cannon.

Saw Schmigadoon last night. Thoroughly enjoyed the production, lots of fun and laughter for me, and from what I could hear many people in the audience. And in these times, when I need to find joy... Nailed it!

After reading Glenn Berger's book about his time writing the Spiderman musical, I haven't much trusted Cinco Paul. It sounds like he was very underhanded in his dealings with GB and that his understanding of musical theater was very basic. I thought the first season of Schmigadoon sailed by on the talent of the performers (Harada is a favorite)...the second season was so disappointing...mainly because the songs weren't just inspired by broadway tunes...they were broadway tunes with small adjustments. Also, again, Cinco Paul seems like a pretty ego-driven, underhanded guy.
