WEDNESDAY: Sitcoms, MAD Magazine, Funny Women, SNL's Jews
"Funny Jews Marathon"; also coming up: Carole King, Billy Joel, Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein
On Wednesday, November 18, Jewish Culture 101 will be exploring a number of topics related to Funny Jews. Students may attend one or all classes; tuition is $1.
MAD Magazine entertained a whole generation of young people with its wacky parodies and clever features. Norman Lear used television programs like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Good Times to propel social change. Funny Jewish women like Fanny Brice, Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner, and Sarah Silverman made their mark on both the comedy circuit and the Jewish community. And Jewish skits on Saturday Night Live - from the Chanukah song to Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy - are a staple of that program.
The last two classes from the Singer-Songwriter series have no more free tickets left (1,000 have already been distributed for each) but you can purchase overflow tickets for $10 each: Carole King (Monday, November 23 at Noon ET) and Billy Joel (Monday, November 30 at Noon ET).
There are still FREE spots available in Rodgers & Hammerstein 101 (Monday, December 7 at Noon ET).
Finally, my popular Greatest Hits series on Stephen Sondheim returns on Thursdays at Noon ET December 3, 10, and 17 (tuition for the series $1):
Thursday, December 3 Sondheim’s Lyrics
Thursday, December 10 West Side Story
Thursday, December 17 Into the Woods
Do the math!
There are 10 classes left in 2020, including two that are already full and two more that will probably fill up; and seven classes that require tuition. COVER ALL OF THAT with a $40 ALL-ACCESS Pass, available at bitly.com/Benkof2020
Note: students with an All-Access Pass get admitted to all classes even if they are otherwise full.
