TOMORROW: Billy Joel 101
December 7's Rodgers & Hammerstein 101 (FREE class) is already one-third full; also: Sondheim Seminar (Lyrics, West Side Story, Into the Woods)
On Monday, November 30, Jewish Culture 101 will be looking at the life, music, and lyrics of one of the 20th century’s great singer-songwriters, Billy Joel. From “Piano Man” to “Allentown” to “Goodnight Saigon” to “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” Joel’s music helped provide the soundtrack for the lives of Baby Boomers over many decades.
Billy Joel 101 has been full for more than ten days, when the last of the 1,000 free tickets was distributed. “Overflow” tickets, though, are still available for $10, at bitly.com/BenkofSingers
There are still FREE spots available in Rodgers & Hammerstein 101 (Monday, December 7 at Noon ET). We’ll look at “Oklahoma!”; “South Pacific”; and “The Sound of Music,” focusing especially on the way the musical theater duo dealt with issues of prejudice in their work. About a third of the tickets have been distributed already, though, so please sign up right away at bitly.com/BenkofMusical
Finally, my popular Greatest Hits series on Stephen Sondheim returns on Thursdays at Noon ET December 3, 10, and 17 (tuition for the series $1):
Thursday, December 3 Sondheim’s Lyrics
Thursday, December 10 West Side Story
Thursday, December 17 Into the Woods
