In January, evening students who missed November’s Jewish Culture 101 singer-songwriter series will be able to enjoy this very popular series of classes (more than 6,000 people have taken them so far) at 8 pm and 9 pm Eastern over the course of three evenings. We look at lyrics and music, yes, but also the structure of songs like “Piano Man”; “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”; “Sounds of Silence”; and “Mi Shebeirach.” Tuition: $2 covers the entire six-class series. Register: bitly.com/BenkofSongwriters
“If You Could See Cabaret Through My Eyes” is one of my five most popular classes. We look at aspects of the 1972 Bob Fosse film version that are easy to miss but delicious once you see them. Who is “Mein Herr”? Why is “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” even more wicked than it appears? When you find out who Elsie (“I used to have a girlfriend known as Elsie…”) is, you’ll have to peel yourself off the floor. Tuition: $2. Sign-up: bitly.com/BenkofCabaret
Because of extraordinary demand (more than 1,700 sign-ups already) Broadway Theater 101’s FREE class on Annie Get Your Gun and Kiss Me Kate will meet four times instead of once. If you’d like to come, please sign up right away because at least one of the classes will close when it hits the maximum registration. FREE sign-up for this and the other four Broadway classes in January: bitly.com/BenkofBroadway
Jewish Culture 101’s classes on Women Photographers and Poets examines some great pictures and poems by 20th and 21st century women like Annie Leibovitz, Eve Arnold, Diane Arbus, Irena Klepficz, and recent nobelist Louise Glück. In the small group setting (probably 60 students or fewer), you’ll be able to share your interpretations as well as learn mine and those of other students. Tuition: $2. Sign-up: bitly.com/BenkofWomen
You can find the current calendar for all classes at bitly.com/BenkofClasses
One more thing: I’m currently booking private classes for synagogues, Hadassah chapters, Men’s Clubs, etc. If you’d like me to present one of my classes (popular choices are SNL’s Jews, Debbie Friedman 101, and “If you Could See Cabaret Through My Eyes”) reply to this E-mail.
