MONDAY: Carole King 101 (overflow tickets on sale)
Also coming up: Billy Joel, Rodgers & Hammerstein (FREE), Stephen Sondheim Seminar
On Monday, November 23, Jewish Culture 101 will be looking at the life, career, music, and lyrics of one of the finest singer-songwriters of the 20th century, and quite possibly the best female in that category: Carole King. Her musical numbers for other people and herself are among the most hummable and meaningful of the 1960s, the 1970s, and beyond: “One Fine Day”; “The Loco-Motion”; “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?”; “You’ve Got a Friend”; “It’s Too Late”; and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”
All 1,000 free tickets to Carole King 101 have been distributed, but overflow tickets are available for $10. Similarly, there are no free tickets left to next week’s Billy Joel 101 but overflow tickets are available.
There are still FREE spots available in Rodgers & Hammerstein 101 (Monday, December 7 at Noon ET).
Finally, my popular Greatest Hits series on Stephen Sondheim returns on Thursdays at Noon ET December 3, 10, and 17 (tuition for the series $1):
Thursday, December 3 Sondheim’s Lyrics
Thursday, December 10 West Side Story
Thursday, December 17 Into the Woods
