Join the Aficionado Society: Jewish Culture 101 enhanced
Extra time, extra content, more intimacy, and tell David thanks
I’ve already announced the five classes in June:
June 1 George Gershwin 101
June 8 A Serious Man
June 15 Disney’s Jews
June 22 Mark Rothko 101
June 29 Philip Roth’s “Defender of the Faith” (registration to come)
But also in June I’m introducing The Aficionado Society. For $18, you can join David and other members for a half-hour, more intimate lesson about each of the five topics for the month of June.
There are three main advantages of joining the society:
More content. After the Gershwin class, Aficionado Society members will get a taste of Aaron Copland’s music. After the Serious Man class, we’ll discuss and debate some of the philosophical ideas that we can’t get to in the 60-minute format. And with the Rothko class we’ll look at more paintings and everyone will have a chance to participate in interpreting them.
More intimacy. Instead of the number of students in the room being counted in the hundreds, we’ll have a few dozen students at the most. You’ll have plenty of chances to talk (mute off) and have your chat comments recognized. Plus, Aficionado Society members will start to get to know each other week after week.
You’re compensating David for his efforts in putting Jewish Culture 101 together. After a disastrous attempt at charging for some classes in May, David is trying this new way to let people contribute. If you have liked Jewish Culture 101 - even if you don’t want to come to the extra 30-minute sessions - please buy a membership to show David you appreciate his teaching.
(To be perfectly honest, if I can’t be compensated by selling tickets, and I can’t be compensated by selling memberships, I’m still going to teach but I’m not going to teach as often.)
Let’s do this together - I think it will be fun!
